Dayton will give State of the State at U of M

Gov. Mark Dayton has decided to deliver his annual State of the State address at the University of Minnesota.

Dayton’s office announced Tuesday that the speech will be March 9, 7:00 p.m., at the university’s McNamara Alumni Center.

The governor sent letters to House and Senate leaders requesting an opportunity to deliver the speech.

The governor revealed the date last week, but he said at the time that he did not yet have a venue. He said a more suitable location was needed because of renovation work still underway inside the state Capitol. The public viewing galleries of the House chamber are closed off, and the plumbing is shut off.

The speech will come one day after legislators return to St. Paul for the start of the 2016 session.
