Dayton looking for State of the State venue

Gov. Mark Dayton has scheduled his annual State of the State address for March 9, but he has no idea where he will deliver it.

Normally, governors give the speech in the Minnesota House Chamber.

But the major renovation work underway inside the state Capitol makes that a less appealing option. The public viewing galleries above the chamber are closed off, and the plumbing is shut off.

Dayton told reporters Friday that he’s still looking for a suitable location for the speech.

“It will be somewhere in the proximity to the Capitol,” Dayton said.

The speech will come one day after legislators return to St. Paul for the start of the 2016 session.
