What can we expect for Thursday's a.m. rush hours?
The latest short term mesoscale models, satellite and radar trends suggest we could see another vigorous snowburst moving from southern into central Minnesota as we head into Thursday morning's rush hours.
NOAA's HRRR model suggest a temporary lull in snowfall in southern Minnesota will fill in with moderate to heavy snow bands between midnight and 8 a.m. CDT. A few hours of moderate to heavy snow will likely arrive in the Twin Cities before and during the a.m. rush hours Thursday.
The HRRR model suggests the next wave could add another 5 inches to current Twin Cities snowfall totals by 9 a.m. Another 8 inches may fall in western Minnesota by midmorning.

It's important to remember that large winter storms have a smaller microscale feature embedded within the bigger storm. Another pulse of moisture and energy appears ready to enhance snowfall bands across southern Minnesota early Thursday morning.
Snowfall so far
Around the greater Twin Cites anywhere from 2 inches to 6 inches of sloppy slush has fallen so far.
Overall I think the latest NWS snowfall accumulation map looks reasonable, with a huge pile over 20 inches locally in western Minnesota and anywhere between 5 and 15 inches across the greater Twin Cities from southeast to northwest.
