Winter storm still on track through Tuesday

Our February in April forecast is on track as expected so far. The lead waves brought lighter snow. The main event is still on track as we look forward into Tuesday.

NOAA's NAM 3 km resolution model captures the lull in snowfall, then the main event moving in before Tuesday morning rush hour. There's no way to sugar coat it, Tuesday AM rush looks like an April mess.

...Snow continues across central Minnesota this evening, and then

heavier snow develops from southern Minnesota across western

Wisconsin tonight and tomorrow...

.A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for south central and southeast

Minnesota and west central Wisconsin tonight through Tuesday.

Accumulations of 5 to 8 inches are likely in this area, with

locally 10 inches possible.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of central

Minnesota starting through 1 AM tonight. Accumulations of 2 of

5 inches are likely in this area.

Positively plowable

I still think the heaviest snow bands will lay out across southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin, just south and east of the Twin Cities. Still a good solid 3" to 7" seems reasonable for the Twin Cities by Tuesday evening. More like 5" to 10" in the warning zone.

Not melting

April snow is common in Minnesota. But the magnitude of this weeks cold air is unusual. Temperatures run a good 20 degrees colder than average this week.
