This is way past ridiculous. The air mass over Minnesota and the Upper Midwest looks far more January than April.
Several locations across Minnesota set all-time daily records for cold Friday.
Friday afternoon's temperature of 22 degrees at Twin Cities is 31 degrees colder than average; 22 is the average high for Jan. 15 in the Twin Cities.

Storm track trending slightly southwest?
The latest model trends seem to be shifting the system further southwest. That would in theory, produce less snow for the Twin Cities.
The heaviest totals seem to favor southwest Minnesota. If the southwest track trend holds, it would likely be more of a 1- to 4-inch event for the Twin Cities. Snowfall totals of 4 to 8 inches are possible along the Minnesota River Valley axis and in southwestern Minnesota.
Given current trends, the latest National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration North American Mesoscale Forecast System 12 km snowfall layout looks reasonable.
Here's the latest Twin Cities National Weather Service snowfall map. If trends continue, the heavier snow bands may shift southwest.
50 next week?
It still looks significantly milder next week. Highs should push from the upper 40s to near 50 degrees in the Twin Cities next Wednesday and Thursday.
Friday the 13th: Scary forecast model differences
There are huge model differences on the weather pattern starting next Friday. The American models suggest temps in the 50s and rain for the Twin Cities.
The European and Canadian models suggests all snow and temps in the 30s.
The way this "spring" is going I'd hate to bet against the notion of snow next weekend. My spring-loving heart is in denial. My meteorological head says we're going to have to watch this one closely.
