Spring shuffle; how to become a SKYWARN spotter

Spring in Minnesota is often a gradual process. It’s two steps forward, and one step back. We continue with our theme of wintry mornings and hints of spring in the afternoon this week.

Slowly milder

The overall weather pattern is stuck in the upper atmosphere. That means a slow moderating trend this week. The weekend still looks like the warmest two days. Good timing.

More zonal next week

The upper-air pattern over Minnesota looks more west to east next week. That should allow temps to remain mostly in the 40s.

SKYWARN training

If you’re interested in becoming a trained severe weather spotter the Twin Cities and other local National Weather Service offices offer SKYWARN spotter training at several locations each spring. Today it’s Balsam Lake, Wis.

Boston nor’easter

Boston is getting hammered today by the third nor’easter in just two weeks. The core of heavy snow bands with snowfall rates at or above 1 inch per hour pushed in this morning.

Many areas around Boston will pick up an incredible 1 to 2 feet of snow today.

High winds bring more power outages. Coastal storm surge brings flooding.
