February's changing snow cover

This has been a productive month for snowfall in the Upper Midwest. Now we're in full melt mode. Snow cover at MSP Airport has dropped from 10" Sunday to 7" by Wednesday afternoon. Here's a cool snow cover time-lapse from the Aberdeen NWS office.

Messy system Sunday

Sunday's system looks messy in the Twin Cities and snowy up north. The latest model runs continue to suggest mostly rain ending as snow Monday in southern Minnesota. Significant snowfall accumulations are looking likely in the northern half of Minnesota.

It's early and the finer details will likely change, but NOAA's GFS model gives you the idea of a messy system.

We'll refine the late weekend forecast details in the next 48 hours.
