Light snow late Friday; quiet weekend
It's not often that you see a snowman in Houston, Texas:
They had a bit over one inch of snow in Houston overnight Thursday night:
Temperatures hovered near freezing overnight, and winter weather advisories were in effect until mid-morning on Friday for much of south Texas.
A few spots in south Texas saw two inches or more of snow.

Warnings and advisories
Snow, and possibly some areas of freezing rain, will spread across the south and southeast this Friday.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's North American Mesoscale forecast model shows the potential precipitation pattern Friday and Friday evening:
A combination of winter weather advisories and winter storm warnings extends from Louisiana and Mississippi to north Georgia this Friday and Friday night:
The Atlanta area will see some snow too:

Friday snow chances in Minnesota
Snow is expected to spread from north-central and northeastern Minnesota southward Friday afternoon, arriving in the Twin Cities metro area around sunset or shortly after sunset.
NOAA's NAM model shows the potential snow pattern from Friday afternoon through Friday evening:
Snow accumulations are expected to be one inch or less in the Twin Cities metro area, but evening drive time could be slower than normal.
North-central and northeastern Minnesota, plus northwestern Wisconsin could see 1 to 2 inches of snow:
Notice the higher lake effect snow amounts as snow continues in parts of northern Wisconsin and the upper peninsula of Michigan Friday night.
Eastern Minnesota and western Wisconsin could see a batch of light snow Sunday night and Monday morning.

The latest Minnesota snow depth map compiled by the Minnesota State Climatology Office shows the deepest snow cover is over far northern Minnesota:
Temperature trends
Our Friday highs will be mostly in the 20s across Minnesota, with some upper teens in the northeast.
I would not be surprised if a few spots in southwestern and south-central Minnesota touch 30.
Saturdays highs will be mostly in the 20s:
Northeastern and north-central Minnesota are expected to top out in the teens.
Sunday will be the warmest day of the weekend, with highs ranging from the lower 40s southwest to the 20s north-central and northeast:
