Rising greenhouse gas emissions in 2017 surprise some

Global greenhouse gas emissions have been stable for the past three years. That’s been a ray of hope for climate watchers.

But a new report in the journal Nature Climate Change says GHG emissions will rise 2 percent this year.

Tim Nixon is the head of sustainability thought leadership at Thomson Reuters here in the Twin Cities. He’s one author of a recent report tracking the top 250 corporate greenhouse gas emitters.

On this week's Climate Cast I asked Tim for his assessment on these rising GHG numbers.

(Disclosure: I was asked to provide a small set of climate facts for the report.)

Also this week: It’s a long way from St. Paul to Bonn, Germany.

But that’s where I found a committed group of Twin Cities students who traveled to the big COP23 climate conference. Dr. Roopali Phadke is a professor of environmental studies at Macalester College in St. Paul.
