October warm wave next week?
Just when it looked like the season formerly known as autumn was here to stay. Get ready for summer of 2017 to hang a little longer.
After last weekend's record heat spell, today's thermometers finally look more like fall in Minnesota. Long neglected shades of green and blue returned to the weather maps, shoving summer's lingering hot steamy air mass southward.
In fact tonight looks downright cool. Temperatures early Wednesday morning dip into the 40s, even a few 30s in the eastern Dakoats. Good sleeping weather indeed.
Alas, like many things in life our refreshingly cool spell looks temporary. Temperatures rise toward 70 degrees as soon as Thursday. A minor temperature speed bump arrives Friday, then the upward trend resumes as we move through the weekend.

Warm upper air pattern evolving next week?
October arrives Sunday. How did that happen by the way? Forecast models are in flux regarding next week's upper air pattern. But trends suggest the jet stream may buckle and push warm air into the Upper Midwest next week.
Early indications suggest 70s and even 80s may return to Minnesota next week. NOAA's GFS is pushing temps well into the 80s by next Thursday. The average high temperature at MSP Airport for October 5th? 63 degrees.
NOAA's GFS 16-day temperature output cranks out late summer-like warmth through about October 10th.
