Breezy and cool Saturday; Tuesday snow potential

Minnesota jumped right into winter on Friday, with very strong winds and heavy snow in many locations.

The official Twin Cities snowfall total was only .3 of an inch at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, and .8 of an inch at the National Weather Service office in Chanhassen.

St. Cloud reported 4.1 inches of snow on Friday, and Duluth came in with 6.5 inches.

Much higher totals came in from other spots in Minnesota:

Breezy Saturday

The strong low pressure system that gave us our Friday snow will move slowly away today, but we'll have a breezy Saturday.

A high pressure system will move in tonight and linger through Sunday:

This will be the first day this month with a cooler than normal high temp in the Twin Cities!

Sunday will feel warmer, with light winds and plenty of sunshine.

Tuesday snow

Computer models show a low pressure system passing to our south on Tuesday, moving to the east-northeast Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Here is the low position at noon on Tuesday, according to NOAA's Global Forecast System model:

We could see a mix of rain and snow over southern Minnesota Tuesday, with mostly snow to the north.  The mix in the south could change to all snow Tuesday night and continue into early Wednesday.
