Snow and rain, then warmer this weekend
Snow lovers would like to see some flakes. The Minnesota snow cover map, released today by the Minnesota State Climatology Office, shows very little snow over much of southern Minnesota:
The arrowhead region of Minnesota still has plenty of snow cover, and that area will see more snow on Friday.
An Alberta clipper moves through Minnesota on Friday, with the heaviest snow expected to fall over northeastern Minnesota and northwestern and central Wisconsin:

A winter weather advisory runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday in Minnesota from International Falls to near Grand Rapids, and from noon to 9 p.m. Friday for the remainder of the potential 3- to 5-inch snowfall area, including Duluth and Hayward, Wis.
In the Twin Cities metro area we expect some periods of rain mixed with snow on Friday.

As the upper air pattern becomes more west to east, our Twin Cities highs warm to near 50 on Sunday, and to the mid to upper 50s on Monday and Tuesday! And yes, we could see some scattered thunderstorms late Monday into Tuesday.
