Mixed precipitation overnight; brisk wind Wednesday

Sunshine over northern Minnesota and much of Wisconsin allowed temperatures to soar to the lower 50s in far northern Minnesota.

Meanwhile, overcast skies and a brisk wind added to the chill in southwest Minnesota, where it was only 32 degrees at Pipestone at 4 p.m.

Winds gusted to 30 miles per hour at times in western Minnesota keeping wind chills in the teens.

Precipitation was slowing advancing east from southwest Minnesota late this afternoon.

The mixed precipitation is expected to change mostly to snow this evening over southeast Minnesota, where a winter weather advisory is in effect.

Light amounts of snow are on tap for the Twin Cities.  Be careful on the roadways heading southeast of Minneapolis-St. Paul.

Here's the latest statement issued around 330 p.m. CDT from the LaCrosse, Wis., National Weather Service.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS

EVENING TO 4 AM CDT WEDNESDAY...

* EXPECT A WINTRY MIX TO DEVELOP THIS EVENING...THEN DIMINISH

EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING.

* THE HEAVIEST SNOW RATES WILL OCCUR BETWEEN 8 PM AND 3 AM. SOME

SLEET COULD ALSO OCCUR EARLY THIS EVENING.

Snow could accumulate up to four inches from Rochester to LaCrosse.

The liquid precipitation from this snow-sleet mixture will be on the order of a quarter to just less than a half inch from 7 p.m. to noon on Wednesday.

The heavy snowfall event on Sunday and Sunday night helped cut into the moisture deficit, but west central Minnesota is likely to miss out on on tonight's precipitation.

Northwest Minnesota may pick up a tenth of an inch of precipitation tonight.

Thunderstorms are erupting in southwest Missouri and NOAA's Storm Prediction Center has outlined an area where severe storms with large hail may occur in the next couple of hours.
