Cold weather lingers

It was a light dusting of snow in the Twin Cities today, with just two-tenths of an inch at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.

As expected, the highest snow totals were in southwestern Minnesota. Near Alpha, in Jackson county, they measured an impressive 6.5 inches of fresh snow today.

Cold high pressure will dominate our weather through Friday. Winds will be high enough to drop wind chill readings into the -25 to -35 degree range overnight into Thursday morning.

For that reason, the National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for much of Minnesota and Northern Wisconsin until late Thursday morning..

Our average high in the Twin Cities is 32 degrees this time of year. We won’t see 32, but our temps will rebound a bit by this weekend. Lower 20s are possible in the Twin Cities on Saturday, and we have a shot at the upper 20s on Sunday.

And now a heads-up for travelers.  Winter storm warnings are in effect for Atlanta and many spots in the southeastern U.S. tonight and Thursday.
