Murky Monday: Accumlating snow today through Tuesday

Sunday's wintry mix changed to a chilly rain yesterday evening.  Before the changeover to light rain and drizzle, 3 inches of snow accumulated in International Falls.

Three to 3.5 inches of snow were reported at Seeley (Sawyer County, Wis.) and Butternut (Ashland County, Wis.). Overnight, the light rain changed back to snow in northeast Minnesota.

Snow cover has become relatively sparse over the southern half of the state. This morning, Duluth reported a 3-inch snow depth. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport reported  no snow cover.

As this snow-producing system pulls east on Tuesday night, we are looking at a pretty good travel day on Christmas Eve.  Temperatures are likely to top out in the 20s and 30s on Wednesday.

High temperatures forecast for Wednesday.

The computer models are indicating another bout of snow on Friday.  I'll track that snow chance for our neck of the woods as we move through the week.  Colder temperatures are seen for the weekend.
