Tracking overnight storms, gusty and cooler Thursday

The Twin Cities touched the 80 degree mark for the 10th time this year Wednesday. Yes, it felt like summer out there.

The radar scope seems to agree that summer weather is in the air. The Doppler glows with scattered storms overnight, and a blustery and cooler Thursday awaits behind the front triggering the storms.

Overnight soaker favors Northland

Central and northern Minnesota get the heaviest rainfall totals with our incoming low overnight into Thursday. I expect some rainfall totals of 1 to 2 inches or more from Fargo to Bemidji to International Falls, Brainerd to the North Shore. Here's the latest rainfall output from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

The culprit? A cold front that sweep through overnight. Behind the front a cooler blustery Thursday -- and a stellar Friday as high pressure builds in again. Yes, that's the next rain system headed in on the last frame... just time for the weekend.

Heavy weekend downpours?

The Twin Cities gets through this week with lighter rainfall totals while northern Minnesota gets soaked. That trend may not hold this weekend. I am seeing the possibility of some heavy weekend rainfall totals once again.

If we see another "multi-inch" weekend, creek and lake levels may spike once again by early next week.

Stay tuned.
