Grazed by a Clipper tonight, tracking the coming thaw

Tuesday night clipper

Southern Minnesota is on deck for the next clipper of our late winter season.

This one rides along the Minnesota River Valley and the Interstate 90 corridor. The Twin Cities is on the northeast edge of the snow shield with this one, and most areas will pick up another snowy dusting to an inch. The southwest metro stands the best chance of 1 to 2 inches with tonight's action.

The southern storm track means a good 2 to 4 inches is likely by morning for Mankato, Rochester and La Crosse, Wis.

Tracking the thaw: a shot at 40 by Monday?

The latest model runs continue to support the notion of milder temps by Thursday, and a full blown thaw by next Monday.

The latest trends support snow for northern Minnesota Thursday, and keep the metro mostly dry and potentially sunny and milder with highs cracking 30 degrees.

We hit a temperature speed bump (20s above zero) this weekend, then conditions favor a full blown that by Monday and a real shot at 40 degrees in southern Minnesota including the metro.

Note the absence of any subzero temps in the forecast and the trend lines heading toward the 30s.

Be ready for a little more snow and slick roads tonight. By Thursday afternoon, and especially next Monday, you may be seeing ice free roads and sidewalks for the first time in a long while.

Hang in there!
