Wednesday: Wet start - nice finish!
A batch of scattered rain & thunder is sliding across southern Minnesota early Wednesday.

The precip bands are with an advancing cold front sailing south today.
Computer models are cranking out a decent soaking in parts of southern Minnesota.

The front pushes east this afternoon. Sunny skies and a brisk northwest wind will funnel in cooler & drier air mass that will feel like fall by this evening, and last the rest of the week.

Summer of 90s: Day #30 of 90 degree heat in the metro is most in 24 years.
It felt like summer will never end Tuesday when the mercury pushed to 92 degrees in the metro.
It will.
But Tuesday was day #30 of 90 degree heat in this "summer" that seemed to start on St. Patrick's Day when the temp hit 80 in March.
The Twin Cities NWS has a nice write up about the hottest year on record so far in the metro.
Below is a graph showing temperature and precipitation from the beginning of the year until the end of August for Minneapolis/St. Paul. Note the record temperatures in March, the large jump in cumulative rainfall totals in May, and the very hot July.

That's the highest number of 90 degree days since 1988 when we baked through 44 days of 90 degrees.
Looking ahead, it looks like we'll see a few more 80 degree days this year....and one more 90 is possible...but not likely.
