Goes 1km visible satellite shows (white) areas of fog at 8:15 am Monday morning.

Clear skies, calm air (the "wind" is never calm by definition) lead to perfect radiational cooling conditions Sunday night. The air temp dropped to the dew point in rover valleys, and condensation occurred forming fog.

Twin Cities NWS has a great write up here.

River Valley Fog This Morning

"This morning saw patchy fog, some of it dense, across parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin. The most persistent fog with the lowest visibility was generally seen in the river valleys, which lasted through 10 am in some places. The overall setup for fog was ideal, with full radiational cooling at night under a clear sky, light winds, and above normal soil moisture. In addition, isolated light showers during the day Sunday had helped to moisten the atmospheric boundary layer in places. River valleys can be favored areas for fog due to having the lightest winds overnight, a moisture source in the water, and potential cool air drainage and settling in the valley, allowing the air better ease to saturate."

Pretty cool huh?

NWS at the Fair:

Speaking of NWS, when you are out at the Fair you can check out the NWS booth in the Education Building. Here's the map.

My first ever TV appearance as a young buck was on WCCO-TV was a Noon Report live shot from the NWS booth at the Fair in the late 80s. Bill Carlson was the anchor and Bud Kraehling did the weather that day. What a great memory, it comes back every time I see the NWS boot at the fair.

BTW, It was so great to see Bud at Don Shelby's retirement party last December. We had a nice talk and he looked great! For those of you who grew up in the Twin Cities and are of a certain age you'll remember Bill & Bud.

I count it among the blessings in my life to have worked with so many of the great Twin Cities TV news legends like Dave Moore, Bill, Bud, Shelby, Needles, Fairbourne, Rosen & company.

And now I get to work along side Gary Eichten, Cathy Wurzer, Tom Crann, Kerri Miller and all the other greats at MPR? Somebody pinch me please! Wait, if this is a dream please don't wake me.

Mike Fairbourne at WCCO hung up his weatehr clicker this summer. I owe part of my carreer to Mike, who helped me get my start in the biz.

Here's a great photo spread on Mike from CBS.

Early 90s weather promo shoot at WCCO-TV with Bud, Mike & Matt. Gotta love the latent 80s 'stashe and bad hair day! We're Matt & I brothers or something?

Rebecca Kolls adds some grace to the mix.

Tuesday shower chances:

After a stellar Monday with bright sun & mild temps our next chance for rain rolls in Tuesday.

The NAM models has backed off on rainfall potential for the metro (.16")...but still cranks out a good .50"+ for parts of MN.

It looks like the showers & T-Storms will be scattered in coverage and timing, and may favor the afternoon and evening Tuesday.

Keep the umbrella handy!
