Breezy weekend ahead

NWS wind speed for 4pm Saturday indicates a windy day.

This is one of those weekends I think most of us will enjoy.

There's no big breaking weather news. No hurricanes, no more large hail, and no twisters in the Twin Cities.

A slow moving cool front will trigger a few showers and thunderstorms southeast of the metro this evening. There will be some severe weather along the front.

It will be a little on the cool side Saturday, especially up north. We may see a few 40s and low 50s north of Brainerd early Saturday morning. Highs will have trouble climbing out of the 60s Saturday in far northern Minnesota.

You'll notice the breeze Saturday. Northwest winds will pipe up at between 15 and 25 mph. There will be gusts to near 30 mph over open water on the lakes, so expect some big waves by Saturday afternoon. Look for a high in the upper 70s in the Twin Cities.

Sunday should be the more summery day of the weekend. We should climb back into the 80s in southern Minnesota, with 70s up north. There will still be a breeze from the northwest at 10 to 20 mph.

Lake Minnetonka surface water temperature is up to 73 degrees on the Weather Lab boat thermometer.

Enjoy the weekend!
