I was stunned to learn recently that Florida does not have a network of tornado sirens.

In a state the leads the nation in the number of thunderstorms, you might think they would have installed them by now.

Tha city of Oviedo near Orlando in central Florida is installing 8 sirens for a cost of about $175,000. Considering tornadoes can and do kill, it's money well spent.

Enjoy the full Harvest Moon rising at 6:51pm. The Havrest Moon is a special one, since it rises closer to sunset for a few days than full moons in other months. This means more moonlight for farmers during the harvest. Of course these days, those big farm combines have headlights, and hot coffee at hand.
