Monday’s storm: photos, tweets from around Minnesota

Large portions of southern and northern Minnesota is dealing with flooding and wind damage following storms that raged Monday evening. “And it’s not going to get better for the next four days or so,” Dan Luna, chief meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Chanhassen told the Star Tribune. “I wish I could tell you the worst is over, but that’s just not the case.”

The Rainy River in northern Minnesota has reached a record flood level, and the water is still rising.

"Pipestone County reported 3.5 inches of rain Monday, the weather service said. A wind gust measuring 79 mph was reported in Jackson, while hail estimated at an inch in diameter fell near Jackson and tree branches were knocked down," reported the Associated Press.

"The Mankato area was hit with high winds, slashing rain and hail," reports the Mankato Free Press. The paper reports extensive tree and building damage in addition to power outages.

National Weather Service trained storm spotters from around the area reported winds as high as 60 mph, one-inch and ping pong ball-sized hail, as well as a deluge of rain that left streets from Waseca to Mankato flooded and farm fields looking like lakes. Streets in Eagle Lake looked like small streams.
