Wendy Lehr named 2013 McKnight Distinguished Artist

2013 McKnight Distinguished Artist Wendy Lehr

The McKnight Foundation has named Wendy Lehr, a pillar of the Twin Cities theater scene, the recipient of its top artistic honor.

It's easier to list the stages Lehr has not graced than those she has. Lehr has been an actor, director and teacher for nearly five decades. For many years she served as the director of the The Children's Theatre Company school, and spent five years at the helm of the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists. Currently, Lehr serves on the faculty of MacPhail Center for Music's Prelude Program, working with high school students seeking new possibilities as performing artists.

Lehr received the 2010 Ivey Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists' theater in downtown St. Paul is named for her.

The McKnight Distinguished Artist award recognizes Minnesota artists who have made significant contributions to the state’s cultural life.
