Joey the War Horse met the press this morning in the lobby of the Orpheum Theater in downtown Minneapolis.  Joey is a full-sized horse made of cane and cloth who is controlled by three puppeteers who guide his every move. What is remarkable is that while those three humans are in plain sight, such is their skill audience members quickly forget they are there and marvel at the magnificent animal standing before them.

Joey is so realistic, he seemed to fool two Minneapolis Police Department horses who were on hand for the photo opp.

We will have a feature about Joey, and the people who operate him, on All Things Considered tonight. You can also watch my colleague Jeff Thompson's video of the event here
