University of Minnesota President Eric Kaler says the university will try to prevent the use of the Washington Redskins name when the NFL team plays the Vikings at TCF Bank Stadium.

In a letter to Rep. Betty McCollum, Kaler said he finds the team’s name “offensive” and agrees with those who believe it should be replaced.

The Vikings are using the university’s stadium while a new Vikings stadium is built. The team plays Washington on Nov. 2.

Kaler said he’s working with the Vikings to eliminate the use of the name in publicity materials and public address announcements.

McCollum, co-chair of the Congressional Native American Caucus, has been campaiging against the Washington team’s nickname since last year. She’s vowed to lead protests against the Washington team’s name on game day.

I’m offended by the name, “New England Patriots.” It’s Boston, not New England! Plus, everyone knows that real patriots come from the South. #Derp

Stupid comment. “Real” patriots? Ha! I’d argue but then I’d be lowering myself into the gutter with you and you’d win by experience. BTW…… what’s up with the Carolina Panthers? South, North, OMG!

Sure am glad our politicians and “leaders” have the time for this issue. Keeps them from having to deal the non important things like jobs or the economy.
