Saints ballpark wins Met Council clean-up grant
The Metropolitan Council will shoulder some of the cost of cleaning up the contaminated piece of land where St. Paul is building its new minor league ballpark.
The project won a $748,000 grant from the council's Livable Communities program, the council announced Wednesday.
That money will defray some of the $6.2 million in unexpected clean-up costs the city discovered in June. The site where it's building the facility was once used for coal gasification, leaving the land there more polluted than the city originally believed.
The project has received other clean-up grants totaling more than $2.7 million from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development and Ramsey County.
