Target Center will use metal detectors prior to Timberwolves games

The Minnesota Timberwolves announced Wednesday fans will be screened with metal detectors before tonight’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers.

The change is a result of “the NBA’s ongoing efforts to increase fan safety and security,” the team said in a release.

The Wolves said that all fans entering Target Center will be checked with handheld metal detectors for the rest of the 2012-2013 season.

The Vikings have been wanding fans at the gate since 2011. Twins spokesman Kevin Smith says fans have their bags checked at the gate at Target Field, but security does not use metal detectors. Xcel Energy Center spokeswoman Jora Bart said metal detectors aren’t used on Wild fans, either.
