Target Center target: $121M update for Timberwolves home

The city of Minneapolis updated its Target Center renovation project site today, and it included this tidbit: contractor Mortenson now projects $97 million in construction alone, and a total cost of $121 million when the architecture, engineering and other "soft costs" are thrown in.

The biggest single improvements seem to be: "Kitchen, and Toilet Rooms; Level 4 Cambria Club & Club; Level 5 Premium Spaces = Sponsor Zone / Bar & 1,000 premium seats." That's about $15.2 million right there. There's another $15.6 million penciled in for "Building Enclosure / 6th St. Shell Improvements." There are also 550 new televisions scheduled to be put into the place.

There's also a VERY interesting "update" from local architectural firm AECOM, an erstwhile Vikings stadium contender. It looks like they might be rethinking that big glass corner atrium that we saw in some of the initial renderings. Think less "Times Square," apparently, and more "Lincoln, NE," now. That rendering above is of under-construction Pinnacle Bank Arena in said city. The sketch is waaaaay in the back of the AECOM documents, and is labeled an "interesting example."
