William Mitchell's expensive stance on gays in the military

“William Mitchell and Vermont (Law School) deserve a ton of credit. They’re worthy of a lot of admiration and the thanks of gay and lesbian service members and gay and lesbians around the country for sticking up for gay rights, even when it cost them federal funds.’’

-- Kent Greenfield, a Boston College law professor who was part of an unsuccessful law school challenge to the Solomon Amendment. which prevented institutions from getting some federal funding if they barred military recruiters. Mitchell was one of two independent schools that barred recruiters despite the financial loss.

Now that the ban on gays and lesbians in the military has been repealed, Mitchell will likely receive visits from recruiters twice a year.
