U of M receives $14M for new scholarship

The University of Minnesota has received its largest ever one time gift for a scholarship.

The estate of Myrtle Stroud has given the U $14 million.  The money is being used to set up a scholarship at the U of M's College of Liberal Arts.

Stroud, a long time resident of Windom Minn., attended the U in the 1930's.  She died last year at the age of 101.  Her husband Charles, a business owner and investor, attended the U in the 1920's.  He died in 1973.

45 students will receive financial aid from the scholarship this fall.  U officials expect more students will receive the scholarship in the future as its endowment grows.
