Dayton vetoes student-opposed voter-ID bill
Gov. Mark Dayton has vetoed the voter-ID bill, MPR's Capitol View blog reports.
It's the bill that would have required students to present a photo ID before voting -- a condition that some students complained would have made it too tough for them to vote.
Reporter Tom Scheck writes:
In addition to the veto, Dayton issued an executive order that would create a task force to modernize the state's election system and work on ways to prevent illegal voting.
Supporters of the photo ID requirement say they may try to get the measure on the ballot next year as a constitutional amendment.
