Several past instances have prompted Inside Higher Ed to ask whether professors should have the right to walk out of classes if one or more students talk, text or otherwise become disruptive.
Syracuse University philosophy professor Laurence Thomas gives a good reason for the tactic:
“I have the power to walk out, whereas asking a student to leave the class could result in a very awkward confrontation.”
Yet one student from a class that another professor left sees it differently:
“Was it really fair to leave the class based on the actions of these few students? Why were we all reprimanded for their bad mistakes?”
