Truckers are no match for a stiff wind

There’s still time for the Minnesota Legislature to enact a “If A State Trooper Is Knocked to the Ground It’s Too Windy For Semis To Be On The Road” law.

Wind: 1. Trooper: 0. A trooper directing traffic around a jackknifed semi this morning on Highway 86 and Interstate 90 in Jackson County was knocked to the ground by a wind gust. The trooper was not injured, but the video is a reminder of the dangerous conditions caused by this April snowstorm.

Among the more amazing depictions of the struggles truckers had on Minnesota roads on Thursday was this Facebook video, shot by Mike Barsness on Highway 52 in Vermillion.

It doesn’t take much to flip a truck over in gusty winds.

There’s good reason to pay attention to authorities advising no travel on the highways: there are trucks out there.
