Coach apologizes for 90-to-6 football win

The South Dakota State University Jackrabbits are playing defense, thanks to their 90-to-6 win over a pushover team. The team didn’t have much choice but to play the team on the schedule.

It pulled all its starters at halftime against Arkansas-Pine Bluff, which the Argus Leader described as a “rebuilding team.”

But coach John Stiegelmeier said he should have done more to prevent running up the score.

“I should’ve slowed it down earlier. I apologize to Arkansas-Pine Bluff and coach (Cedric) Thomas. I could’ve been a better football coach tonight,” he said.

He may want to have a chat with third-string quarterback Justin Roberts, who ignored instructions not to pass on a third-and-12 play late in the game for a 76-yard-touchdown. Classy.

The team has now outscored its two opponents this season 135-to-20.
