Target staff, shoppers rally behind woman breastfeeding in CT store

Target employees and customers at a store in Connecticut are getting applause after coming to the defense of a woman who was breastfeeding her baby.

Jessie Maher of Collinsville, Conn., posted a video on Facebook of an incident in which she says a man called her “disgusting” for feeding her baby.

“For this particular incident, the team members at the Torrington store were simply helping to ensure this guest and others had a great experience,” a spokesperson at Target headquarters told the Hartford Courant.

In Connecticut, breastfeeding laws protect nursing mothers.

“The amount of people coming at me to defend me was amazing,” Maher told WFSB. “Everyone that was right in that area was there for me defending me, so it felt really good.”

“With all the hate going on in the world. You pick your battles. This is not a battle to fight,” Maher said. “A woman feeding her baby. It’s pretty ridiculous he needs to know that and other people need to know that too.”

The man demanded a refund for his purchases at the store because he saw a woman feeding a baby. He didn’t get one.

  • This dude should look in the mirror if he wants to see something truly “disgusting.”

I’m guessing he thought he was a big shot tough guy until a dozen people showed up to put him in his place.

  • Wanna bet the guy has had a subscription to Hustler or Playboy at some point in his life?

I’d bet a hundred bucks that the pervert is a Trump supporter…

Geesh! What does this guy think breasts were made for; homing beacons that just say “Look my way?”

I can’t believe, in 2016, we’re still having this conversation. Where else is that mother supposed to feed her kid in the middle of errands?

Wouldn’t surprise me if that guy has some unenlightened notions of women’s place in society and would have said “at home where she belongs.”

I’ve enjoyed a magazine or two in my day and i think Trump is possibly the best choice of our ‘wonderful’ choices. And i think it’s great people came to her defense. I just don’t really get why they feel so offended. It’s great the mom is taking care of her baby. What do they want? A crying unhappy baby that the mom is not taking care of? Why are they so offended by the sight of a boob? I just on so many levels cannot agree with getting so offended as to launch some kind of verbal assault at a mom trying hard to take care of her baby. I saw one this weekend on the boat coming back from catalina. They even changed the kid on a boogy board they had bought because the few bathrooms they have for all the people were in use and at least the one near us was also small and had no baby changing station. What’s a parent to do? Within moments their crying baby was dry, happy and feeding. We need to support each other as parents. If your offended or grossed out, don’t look. Doh!
