A parody video from St. Paul gives Minneapolis a nudge

Hi there, Minneapolis. St. Paul, here.

Say, did you know Adele is coming to this town next week and not your town?

The Visit St. Paul marketing team did.

You might want to turn down your speakers.

    Minneapolis responds: yawn!

    • Khatti

Maybe Minneapolis should be doing a take-off on Shut Up and Drive.

      • wjc

Maybe we should just ignore them.

        • Khatti

You Minneapolitens have tried it for a almost two hundred years but St. Paul still doesn’t go away.

  • Kassie

This seems desperate. If you need a video to woo people from 7 miles away to your city, how do you expect to get any out of town visitors?

  • Joe

I just visited St. Paul yesterday! Took the green line, had a drink on Mears Park, and went to a Saints game. It was a cute little town. Would visit again.

  • Gary F

I remember the days when our mayors weren’t buddies and we didn’t care what Minneapolis did and we did our own thing. Ah, the good old days.

    • I wonder how things would look if the state Capitol had been placed in St. Peter as originally intended?

      • Gary F

Probably bigger and better. Fewer government class and more capitalists. The government class has choked any prosperity out of the city.

        • Gary F

And just think, every few years it would flood in St Peter, hopefully keeping away the politicians and having shorter sessions.

      • Sam M

        Or Reeds Landing…..

      • Khatti

St Peter would be duking it out with Mankato.

      • joetron2030

I wonder if a U of M campus would have been located there?

Gustavus is too staunchly Lutheran to have become a UW Madison at least.

Someone needs to go sit in a corner for a while and think about what they’ve done. Including, but not limited to, a) making me never want to go to St. Paul again, b) forcing me to listen to Adele’s song just to remember what the melody is supposed to sound like, and last but not least, c) portraying it as a community entirely populated by white 20 year-olds.

    • Kassie

Right!?!? The thing that makes St. Paul different than Minneapolis are the Asian restaurants on University and places like the Hmong markets. I can get beer, pizza and jucy lucys in Minneapolis.

      • Al

Technically, there’s a 5-8 in Maplewood, too, so depending on your version of who did it first, you can also get a Lucy on our side of the river.

  • Jeff

Can we please just go back to calling the city Pig’s Eye again?

  • CHS

I feel like you other regulars here are getting kinda jaded…. it gave me a good chuckle.

They certainly could have been less repetitive and highlighted some of the less obvious parts though.

    • I thought it was fairly well done, but it DID go on a little too long…

FWIW: I know quite a few people who only stay on “their” side of the river…

Come on over to Minneapolis, the streets are generally on a grid and the address system makes sense.

      ๐Ÿ™‚

      • CHS

Always with your grids and being able to find things…. pfft. ๐Ÿ™‚

Personally I like trying to explain to people why the West Side is actually South of downtown.

        • That STILL bugs me…

          ๐Ÿ™‚

What about the chunks of Minneapolis that is on the “other” side of the river??

          • Al

Well, that’s the part of Minneapolis in which it’s acceptable for St. Paulites to sow their oats. Just so long as you don’t cross the river.

  • Khatti

Now…what can the city fathers do with Rihanna’s Shut Up and Drive?

    • Khatti

Hey! I’ll even give you some verses to start you with:

I’ve been hearing that a neighbor feel they’re being played
They fell shunned and lonely sitting in our shade

They’ve made up a song to tell us all’s not well
With a sad, bleak tune they borrowed from Adele

So tell me Paulites why so glum..glum..glum
      Why for indulge this tedium…um…um
You claim the best is yet to come…come…come
But all you do is make me numb…numb…numb!

  • kevins

As an out-stater, I liked it. Fun to see everyone has something to discuss.

    • Khatti

I understand the term “Out-stater ist verboten. Apparently rural types like me and you get deeply offended when people use it.

      • kevins

I’m sensitive…perhaps “ex-politan”? “Ruralapolitan”? “Dirtapolis”? “The Twin Bean Fields”?

        • Khatti

          The Urbanly-challenged?

  • Rob

Our Cathedral is more beautiful than your Basilica!
