Farmer plows a tribute to Prince

Gene Hanson, a farmer in Edgeley, N.D., is getting some national recognition because he had some time on his hands and decided to go play in the dirt.

He and his tractor came up with this.

The tribute to Prince, the photograph of which Hanson took from his plane, is a nice little thing, but it’s not the most interesting thing in this story.

This is: Prince fan Gene Hanson is 75.

As I have always said, North Dakota can surprise you sometimes.

Any excuse to play in the dirt.

I don’t find it surprising that someone in their 70s enjoyed the music of someone in their 50s. As I approach 40, I listen to a lot of music of musicians in their 20s. Lots of us never stop listening to new music as we get older, just the most boring of us do.

Thank you! As a person who’s a little older than Prince was, one of the things that keeps me going is listening to music that’s being made now. Older music is fine, but I don’t want to be stuck in the past. Nostalgia sucks.

A North Dakota field anticipating the beet; very funky.

And they create a purple dye!

I doubt he did this with a plow. A digger or a disk seem far more likely.

It could have been a chisel plow, if you want to be pedantic.

Could I just have my Stickler for Details moment in peace here? 🙂

If you happen to drive past Crosstown & Cedar in the next few days, keep your eyes peeled for the Prince symbol someone made in the hill of dandelions.

Correction – it was Old Man Johnson who did the work. He owns the farm.
