Spring break: Chasing hope

scoreboard

For the rest of this week, this is going to be the official NewsCut office. When you’re a fan of a baseball team that hasn’t won a World Series in your lifetime, the window of hope in a given season is pretty short, so I’m heading to Arizona to watch some spring baseball while there’s still hope.

In the meantime, if you have something NewsCut-like you’ve always wanted to write an essay on and aren’t particular about whether you get paid for it (you won’t be), feel free to send it along to me and I’ll be happy to post it, assuming the blazing hot sun doesn’t make it impossible for me to see my laptop screen.

Otherwise, I’ll be back here on Monday.

Enjoy the early spring games. The quality of the play isn’t great but you get to see players with very high numbers on their uniforms. 8^)

    • The quality of play doesn’t matter too much to me. We’ve been down a couple of times now. It’s a giant buffet of baseball b/c all the teams are within a short drive.

And the ushers are all retired old guys who really don’t care if you bought that $7 “berm” seat out there and want to sit behind the dugout.

I’d probably do Florida if I went to Spring Training. The team of my youth (The Mets) and my local team for the past 30 years (The Twins) are both in Florida.

Here’s a long shot finish for the AL Central in 2016: Twins, Indians (wild card), Royals, Tigers, White Sox. The Royals are due for a “hang over” season.

I did Fort Meyers last year for the first time. Loved it. How do the Indigenous Persons from Cleveland look this year?

    • Same as last year. Solid pitching and an offense built on the cheap.

have a great week in the sun!

    Have fun, Bob!

Enjoy yourself! Some day I will make that trek also (to FL as long as the twins are still there).

    Sounds like fun.

There’s a journalism class at the ASU Cronkite School in which the students cover spring training. You can read their news and coverage here: http://cronkitenews.azpbs.org/2016/02/23/cactus-league-economic-impact-valley-arizona/
