A kiss for history in Canada

There were loud cheers yesterday when Master Seaman Francis Legare embraced his partner, Corey Vautour, after more than eight months at sea, the CBC reports.

It describes what happened next as “historic.”

“We are reflective of society and we do recruit across all across society,” Rear Admiral Gilles Couturier, commander of the Pacific Navy, said. “If we don’t adapt, we won’t have any sailors joining.”

The moment brought to mind a similar homecoming in the United States five years ago.
