Two-word obit eased the pain of loss

We suppose there are worse ways to mourn than with a generous dose of laughter.

“It makes it a little easier,” Janet Stoll tells the Fargo Forum. “My dad loved to laugh and make other people laugh.”

Her dad is the one who penned his two-word obituary — Doug Died — in the Forum earlier this month, the one that got plenty of attention.

“We never, ever imagined it would become what it did,” she said. “For a man who never had a computer, you can’t help but smile, I guess.”

She and Doug’s other daughter tell Kris Kerzman their dad wouldn’t have liked all of the attention.

“He never thought he would ever be successful, and who would have thought he would become famous worldwide?” Pauline Holmlund said.
