UMD women’s coach rejects reworked contract

The University of Minnesota Duluth says the school’s softball coach has decided not to accept a restructured contract.

Jen Banford was also the school’s director of hockey operations and was among those losing hockey jobs at the school with the dismissal of head coach Shannon Miller, a move which has sparked allegations from Miller suggesting the move had something to do with the fact she’s a woman and she’s gay.

“We are sorry coach Banford has not accepted an appointment to continue coaching UMD softball,” Berlo said in a news release. “She leaves UMD softball with a strong foundation. We appreciate coach Banford’s contributions to UMD athletics over the past nine years.”

The Duluth News Tribune says administrators had told Banford in January that this would be her last season as softball coach, too.
