Another police scandal is brewing, this time in Atwater, Minnesota, east of Willmar, where the police chief is accused of beheading a pet chicken.
Ashley Turnbull, tells Forum Communications that she knows she violated town ordinance when she was told to remove three chickens and two ducks from her property.
But she says police chief Trevor Berger shouldn’t have come onto her land a week later when nobody was around and beat and decapitated a red hen.
“The chicken was like a puppy dog to my son,” said Turnbull. “You wouldn’t do that to a puppy.”
Berger says he was just enforcing the city law.
“I guess I don’t regret it, because it’s like taking care of any rodent in town,” he said.
The police chief said he didn’t use a gun to kill the chicken because there were kids playing nearby.
He tells the newspaper he doesn’t understand why there’s such an uproar about a chicken.
