Why Robin Williams’ death has hit us so hard

People pause by a bench at Boston’s Public Garden, Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, where a small memorial has sprung up at the place where Robin Williams filmed a scene during the movie, “Good Will Hunting.” Williams, 63, died at his San Francisco Bay Area home Monday in an apparent suicide. I haven’t posted audio of my daily conversation with Mary Lucia on The Current in months, but I’ve gotten a number of messages this afternoon asking me to do so. The subject, of course, is Robin Williams and it relates to the post I wrote this morning on the subject.

I got a nice note from a mental health professional who suggested it might have some additional meaning because a man is discussing it in the way I do. We should talk about that sometime. But not right now.

It was a great discussion, and put into to words what so many of us couldn’t. Thank you, and have a great vacation.
