When the president takes a walk

The president of the United States took a walk yesterday.

Count the number of Secret Service agents in this video, released by the White House.

They walked to the Interior Department, then walked back to the White House. Enroute, we learned that the safest place, apparently, for the president to walk is in the middle of the street.

There once was a time when Abraham Lincoln would walk alone, unescorted, through the streets of the nation’s capitol, where he would sometime encounter the poet Walt Witman, coming home from his shift tending for the wounded at one of the many hospitals.
    Remember what happened to Lincoln?
I, for one, do not begrudge the number of dangerous men and women it takes to protect the latest President to come from Illinois. I feel a little sad for Mr. Obama and his family, always trapped in that bubble. For a couple more years, God willing.

The bubble might shrink somewhat, but they will live in one for the rest of their lives.
