For Beargrease racers, it’s the dog days of January

Cold? Sure. But not too cold for dog teams and their mushers.

The John Beargrease race started in Duluth Sunday when temperatures were in the 20s below zero. As of this morning, none of the teams has dropped out of the 350-mile race, according to the Duluth News Tribune.

Among those checking in at the Finland checkpoint today was Elizabeth Nelson and her team. She’s 14. Just before 11 this morning, her GPS tracker shows her in 17th place, traveling at about 6pm.
