    Street protests tend to be carried out by those who have been or fear being dis-empowered.

    Their power is increased when they are joined by those who have no skin directly in the game, but a strong personal sense of justice.

    Coalitions and a broad concept of community ( I live in the Sentient Beings neighborhood ) can be pretty effective too.
