Decoding the snow emergency

A snow emergency has been declared in St. Paul, which means if the Timberwolves score at least 100 points in their next game, you park on the even side of the street, or if fewer than five court challenges are filed in the Coleman-Franken recount, you must only park on the odd side of the street.

Alternately, you can use this formula:

On Saturday, December 20, 2008 beginning at 9:00 P.M., all NIGHT PLOW ROUTES will be plowed. Included are all arterial or main streets posted with signs that say “NIGHT PLOW ROUTE” and one side of all north-south residential streets posted with signs that say “NIGHT PLOW ROUTE-THIS SIDE OF STREET”.

On Sunday, December 21, 2008 beginning at 8:00 A.M. all DAY PLOW ROUTES will be plowed. Included are all non-posted east-west residential streets and the non-posted side of north-south residential streets.

Parking is banned until streets are plowed full width to the curb. There will be tagging and towing ahead of the plows starting immediately at 9:00 P.M. and continuing throughout the Snow Emergency.

Which is nowhere near as interesting.

Here’s the Minneapolis snow emergency information.

In the suburbs, you’re allowed to park in your driveway or garage. Unfortunately I have no links to provide you with a proper explanation on the intricacies of that.

Update 8:17 pm – Up in NW Minnesota, MnDOT has pulled all snowplows off the road TFN. This includes Becker, Big Stone, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Mahnomen, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Swift, Traverse and Wilkin counties.
