Robert Krulwich’s 2011 commencement address at Berkeley

During today's Rewind, we're playing notable commencement speeches. We aren't running journalist Robert Krulwich's 2011 speech on air, but wanted you to hear it. He offered encouragement to Berkeley journalism graduates who might have to start as freelancers:

If you choose to go this way, you won't have...instant success. It will take time. It will probably be very lonely. A living room is not a newsroom. It doesn't feel like one. You know you're alone. And on the way, you might get scarily close to not being able to afford a living room.

But what I've noticed is that people who fall in love with journalism, who stay at it, who stay stubborn, very often win. I don't know why, but I've seen it happen over and over.

He starts with a great anecdote about Charles Kuralt:
