Star Tribune editor heads to Houston
Star Tribune editor Nancy Barnes is leaving the paper to lead the newsroom of the Houston Chronicle.
Publisher Mike Klingensmith says the Star Tribune has begun a search for a replacement, and will consider both internal and external candidates.
Barnes has led the Star Tribune's newsroom for the past six years. In 2013, the paper won two Pulitzer Prizes for local reporting and editorial cartooning.
“Under her leadership, the Star Tribune has made tremendous gains in the quality and depth of the news and information we present and innovative ways we deliver that content to readers," Klingensmith said in a news release. "She leaves behind a world-class news operation that is well-positioned to achieve even greater successes thanks to her efforts.”

The Minnesota Newspaper and Communication Guild issued a statement:
"While the Guild has disagreed with many decisions made by Management in recent years regarding the Newsroom, we absolutely wish Nancy the best of luck in her new career endeavor."
The Guild declined further comment.
The Minnesota Newspaper and Communications Guild represents about 250 employees in the Star Tribune newsroom, promotions and circulation departments.
