Roger Meyer has ended his 11-week-old campaign for mayor of St. Paul, leaving incumbent Chris Coleman without a challenger.
Meyer had raised just over $7,000 for his bid as of Dec. 31. Coleman had more than $100,000 in the bank. They are the only two candidates for St. Paul mayor who have campaign committees registered with Ramsey County.
“Unfortunately, as the campaign ramped up, it became clear to me that because of family and professional obligations, I would not be able to dedicate the time and energy to run the kind of grassroots campaign necessary to push these issues and to win the election,” Meyer said in a press release.
Meyer pledged to work with his fellow Green Party activists to find a replacement candidate. Coleman, a DFLer, has not formally announced his re-election bid, but he is expected to seek a third term.
